Certificate Programs
The practical and theoretical VCM graded music exams are designed to motivate students of all ages and teach them to set their goals in their musical journey.
Currently, exams are available from preliminary level up to level 10, for Piano, Violin, Voice, Music Theory, Composition, Songwriting, and some world instruments such as Santour, Tar, Setar, and Kamancheh. In addition, the Associate Diploma (AVCM) and Licentiate Diploma (LVCM) are available for Piano, and Music Composition, which are the highest academic degrees awarded by the VCM Certificate Program.
To register for the exams, complete the following steps:
- Review our exam policy carefully.
- Complete the exam registration form.
Piano
From the preliminary level to level 4, students will not be required to complete a theoretical exam in order to obtain their VCM Piano Certificate. Students who pass their piano exams will be eligible to receive their VCM piano certificate simply by submitting an email request to exams@vancomusic.ca.
However, students between Level 5 and 8 will be required to complete the theoretical exam which corresponds to their designated level as a corequisite for course completion.
Also, to acquire the VCM piano certificates and VCM composition certificates from level 9 up to LVCM, passing the courses, according to the table below are mandatory.
Violin
From the preliminary level to level 4, students will not be required to complete a theoretical exam in order to obtain their VCM Violin Certificate. Students who pass their violin exams will be eligible to receive their VCM violin certificate simply by submitting an email request to exams@vancomusic.ca.
However, students between Level 5 and 8 will be required to complete the theoretical exam corresponding to their designated level as a corequisite for course completion.
Voice
From the preliminary level to level 4, students will not be required to complete a theoretical exam in order to obtain their VCM Voice Certificate. Students who pass their voice exams will be eligible to receive their VCM voice certificate simply by submitting an email request to exams@vancomusic.ca.
However, students between Level 5 and 8 will be required to complete the theoretical exam which corresponds to their designated level as a corequisite for course completion.
Composition
Upon completion of the piano level 6 and music theory level 8, the students can continue their music journey in the field of composition from level 9 up to LVCM
Tar & Setar
Between the preliminary level to level 4, students will not be required to complete a theoretical exam in order to obtain their VCM Tar & Setar Certificate. Students who pass their Tar & Setar exams will be eligible to receive their VCM Tar & Setar certificate simply by submitting an email request to exams@vancomusic.ca.
However, students between Levels 5 and 8 must complete the theoretical exam corresponding to their designated level as a corequisite for course completion.
Santour
From the preliminary level to level 4, students will not be required to complete a theoretical exam in order to obtain their VCM Santour Certificate. Students who pass their Santour exams will be eligible to receive their VCM Santour certificate simply by submitting an email request to exams@vancomusic.ca.
However, students between Levels 5 and 8 must complete the theoretical exam corresponding to their designated level as a corequisite for course completion.

Receiving a VCM practical certificate from the preliminary level up to level 4 does not require passing a theoretical exam. Therefore, after students pass the practical exams, they can send a request to receive the VCM practical certificate to exams@vancomusic.ca. Although from level 5 to 8, to receive the VCM practical certificate, passing the theoretical exams for that designated level is compulsory. Also, to acquire the VCM piano certificates and VCM composition certificates from level 9 up to LVCM, passing the courses, according to the table below are mandatory.

Receiving a VCM violin certificate from the preliminary level up to level 4 does not require passing a theoretical exam. Therefore, after students pass the violin exams, they can send a request to receive the VCM violin certificate to exams@vancomusic.ca. Although from level 5 to 8, to receive the VCM violin certificate, passing the theoretical exams for that designated level is a corequisite.
